The day your tools get thanked: clean the workshop or desk, flowers on the machines, and no heavy work — even laptops rest today.

One day a year the workshop is the temple and the tools are the deities. Machines are washed, marked, garlanded, and — the rule that matters — rested. Whoever works with their hands or their instruments (a lathe, a laptop, a tempo, a tabla) owns this puja.

  1. Clean & arrange

    Tools and machines cleaned beforehand and arranged before the image — the year's grime removed is half the worship.

  2. Sthapana & avahan

    The image garlanded; diya and dhoop lit; the all-maker invoked over the whole floor.

    ॐ विश्वकर्मणे नमः

    Oṁ Viśvakarmaṇe Namaḥ

    Om, salutations to Vishwakarma — vishva-karman, 'whose work is the universe'. The gods' own architect raised golden Lanka and Indra's halls, and the mantra extends his workshop to every bench and keyboard where making happens. Spoken over tools, it says what craftspeople have always known: skill is a loan from the first maker, and well-kept tools are its worship.

  3. Mark the tools

    Each machine and tool touched with haldi-kumkum and a flower; moli tied where it can be — every worker marking their own station.

  4. Offer the work itself

    The Gita's brahmarpanam verse over the workplace — the act, the instrument, and the doer all offered as one.

    ब्रह्मार्पणं ब्रह्म हविर्ब्रह्माग्नौ ब्रह्मणा हुतम् । ब्रह्मैव तेन गन्तव्यं ब्रह्मकर्मसमाधिना ॥

    Brahmārpaṇaṁ brahma havir brahmāgnau brahmaṇā hutam, brahmaiva tena gantavyaṁ brahma-karma-samādhinā

    The act of offering is Brahman; the offering itself is Brahman, poured by Brahman into the fire of Brahman. Brahman alone is reached by one absorbed in action as Brahman. Said over food, the verse dissolves the diner: offerer, offering, fire, and act are one substance meeting itself. A meal eaten inside that sentence cannot be ordinary — eating becomes the day's most repeated yajna.

  5. Bhog, rest, and the crew's meal

    Naivedya offered and shared by the whole team; the machines stay off till tomorrow. Where kites fly, fly one.
