The story & purpose
Vishwakarma is the maker among the gods — architect of Indra's Amaravati, of golden Lanka, of Dwarka raised from the sea, of the Pushpaka vimana and Shiva's trishul. On Kanya Sankranti, workshops, factories, garages, and studios across the east and north become his temples for a day.
Machines are washed and garlanded, tools laid before his image, and no work is taken from them — the one day labour itself is worshipped. It is the tradition's clearest statement that skill is sacred and every honest workbench an altar.
