About this mantra
Savitr, 'the vivifier, the awakener', is the tenth name, and the most Vedic of them all: this is the deity of the Gayatri mantra itself. Savitr is the sun's power to rouse, the golden impulse that stirs seeds, minds, and mornings into action before any of them know why.
Meaning
Om, salutations to Savitr, the awakener who sets all things stirring. This is the aspect the Gayatri itself prays to: the impulse that turns stillness into growth. In one bow the reciter asks for what every seed receives freely: the quickening.

When to recite it
One of the twelve names of the Surya Namaskar cycle, recited one per posture at sunrise, or counted together as a Sunday (Ravivar) jaap. The name for rousing what is dormant: exam seasons, new disciplines, any practice restarted after a lapse.
