About this mantra
Savitr — 'the vivifier, the awakener' — the tenth name, and the most Vedic of them all: this is the deity of the Gayatri mantra itself. Savitr is the sun's power to rouse — the golden impulse that stirs seeds, minds, and mornings into action before any of them know why.
Meaning
Om, salutations to Savitr — the awakener who sets all things stirring. This is the aspect the Gayatri itself prays to: the impulse that turns stillness into growth. In one bow the reciter asks for what every seed receives freely — the quickening.
When to recite it
One of the twelve names of the Surya Namaskar cycle — recited one per posture at sunrise, or counted together as a Sunday (Ravivar) jaap. The name for rousing what is dormant — exam seasons, new disciplines, any practice restarted after a lapse.
