About this mantra
Bhaskara — 'the maker of light' — closes the twelve: bhās, light; kara, maker. The cycle that opened with friendship rests on illumination in its fullest sense — the sun as maker not just of daylight but of understanding, the inner brightness by which anything is truly seen.
Meaning
Om, salutations to Bhaskara — maker of light, maker of wisdom. The final name asks the outer sun for its inner equivalent: clarity. Having bowed eleven times to what shines upon the world, the reciter now asks that something begin to shine in the mind.
When to recite it
One of the twelve names of the Surya Namaskar cycle — recited one per posture at sunrise, or counted together as a Sunday (Ravivar) jaap. Closed with Bhaskara when the prayer is for understanding — students, teachers, and anyone untangling a hard problem.
