About this mantra
Bhaskara, 'the maker of light', closes the twelve: bhās, light; kara, maker. The cycle that opened with friendship rests on illumination in its fullest sense: the sun as maker of understanding as well as daylight, the inner brightness by which anything is seen for what it is.
Meaning
Om, salutations to Bhaskara, maker of light, maker of wisdom. The final name asks the outer sun for its inner equivalent: clarity. Having bowed eleven times to what shines upon the world, the reciter now asks that something begin to shine in the mind.
