About this mantra
The bīja-mantra of Jupiter — Brihaspati, guru of the devas, whose name Thursday carries as Guruvar. Jyotisha counts Guru as the significator of wisdom, dharma, children, fortune and teachers.
Meaning
Om — with the seed-syllables grāṁ grīṁ grauṁ saḥ — salutations to Guru, Brihaspati: Jupiter, teacher of the gods. Jupiter is expansion — wisdom, fortune, children, faith. The jaap asks for growth in the right direction: that life get larger the way a banyan does, shade included.
When to recite it
Thursdays; counted for studies and teachers, in marriage matters, and at expansions — new degrees, new children, new responsibility.
