The story & purpose
Fifteen days after Janmashtami, Radha appeared at Barsana to Vrishabhanu and Kirti, found, tradition sings, as a lotus-child on the Yamuna's waters. In Braj she is sovereign rather than consort: the presiding queen of prema-bhakti, whose name is spoken before Krishna's own, as in Radhe-Shyam and Radha-Krishna.
The rest of the story
The theology is tender: Radha is Krishna's own hladini-shakti, his capacity for joy, standing apart so that love can happen. To keep her day is to honour the truth that God too longs, and that longing, offered purely, is the shortest road home.
